Purpose
To evaluate the functional outcomes including visual performance and patient reported outcomes after implantation of the new refractive EDOF lens Tecnis PureSee IOL DEN00V and TECNIS PureSee Toric II (JnJ, US).
Setting
International Vision Correction Research Centre (IVCRC), Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Heidelberg, Germany
Methods
This ongoing prospective study includes 50 eyes of 25 patients who underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of the Tecnis PureSee IOL DEN00V (JnJ, US). Main outcome measures were subjective refraction, corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, monocular and binocular [logMar] for distance, intermediate and near vision, and binocular best-corrected defocus curve analysis in the range of +2 to -4, evaluated 3 months after surgery (N = 30 eyes).
Results
The binocular distance corrected defocus curve at 3 months showed a continuous visual acuity of 0.10 logMAR or better in the range of +1.0 to -1.50 diopters and of 0.20 logMAR or better in the range of +1.25 to -2.25 diopters of the defocus curve. Evaluation of more detailed results is ongoing.
Conclusions
The initial results indicate good visual acuity and offer an increased range of focus of ~2.5D when used with an emmetropia target in both eyes. IOL power calculation for the Tecnis PureSee IOL and implantation behaviour is straightforward. Further evaluation of visual acuity and defocus curves at 3 months postoperatively is ongoing.
