Purpose
To assess reading performance in eyes implanted with three different trifocal IOLs
Setting
Private Eye Hospital, Thane, India
Methods
A prospective study design where subjects implanted with three different trifocal IOLs (Clareon PanOptix, Alcon;Trinova,VSY, Biotechnology, Optiflex Trio, Biotech) and having uncorrected distance and near uncorrected visual acuity better than 0.2 logMAR were included. Subjects with retinal disease, intra-operative complications were excluded. Uncorrected monocular reading performances in three different trifocals were measured using MN Read chart. Reading acuity (RA), Maximum reading speed (Max RS), Critical Print size (CPS) and Reading accessibility Index (RAI) was measured and compared using one way ANOVA test.
Results
14, 21, 31 age matched subjects were implanted with PanOptix, Trinova and Trio IOL respectively. The mean±SD RA in PanOptix, Trinova and Trio was 0.13±0.04, 0.12±0.06 and 0.12±0.06 logMAR respectively. The mean±SD Max RS in PanOptix, Trinova and Trio was 75.41±4.31, 76.93± 5.93 and 75.28±6.27 words per minute respectively. One way ANOVA revealed non statistical significant difference in RA, CPS, Max RS and RAI in all three trifocals. Post Hoc Tukey test revealed simiar reading performance of among all three trifocal IOLs.
Conclusions
Reading performance in terms of RA, Max RS, CPS and RAI was found to be similar in different trifocal IOLs.
