Purpose
To describe the results of monocular Presbymax as a treatment for presbyopic of pre-presbyopic patients
Setting
Clinica Baviera Albacete (Spain). Comprehensive Private Clinic.
Methods
This is a prospective study of the results of all presbyopic or pre-presbyopic patients who underwent monocular Presbymax in one eye and aberration-free ablation in the other. The results will be given separately for Presbymax and aberration-free treated eyes. Main outcome measures are pre and postvisual acuities, refractive change and safety and efficacy of the procedure.
Results
Seventeen patients were included in the study. I we consider the dominant eyes, corrected by aberration free ablation, the safety index was 1,03 and the efficacy index 1,02. Ninety three percent of the eyes maintain or gain lines of visual acuity, and 7% lost one line of best corrected visual acuity. Correlation between planned and achieved refraction was very high (R2 = 0,945). If we consider eyes treated with Presbymax, the safety index was 0,94 and the efficacy index was 0,6. Forty two per cent of the eyes lost at least one line of best corrected visual acuity. Two of the Presbymax patients underwent flap lift retratement and underwent presby-reversal with a good final result.
Conclusions
Monocular Presbymax is a good option to correct presbyopia in those patients who don’t want to have intraocular surgery. Satisfaction is higher than what the refractive results could indicate
