Purpose
Assesment of healing of corneal perforation after surgical treatment by amniotic membrane graft and platelet rich plasma clot by anterior segment optical coherence tomography
Setting
Ophthalmology department- Minia University - Minia - Egypt
Methods
Prospective, consecutive clinical series of cases. 13 eyes of 13 patients with small corneal perforation were included in the study.
The patients were surgically treated by amniotic membrane graft (AMG) and platelet rich plasma (PRP) clot and reformation of anterior chamber was performed by air. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) was performed 1 week and 1 month after the surgery to confirm corneal healing and to assess the anterior chamber.
Results
All cases demonstrated formation of the anterior chamber and adequate intraocular pressure digitally during follow up period, and all cases showed complete healing of the corneal perforation by AS-OCT within the 4 weeks follow up period. 5 of the treated patients underwent penetrating keratoplasty after 6 months with satisfactory visual outcomes.
Conclusions
AS-OCT is an essential tool to evaluate corneal healing after surgical treatment for corneal perforation
