Purpose

To comparatively evaluate tomographic and biometric parameters in eyes with keratoconus with Scheimpflug camera, optical and swept-source OCT biometry devices.

Setting

Dokuz Eylül University, Ophthalmology Clinic

Methods

In 48 eyes (23 bilateral) of 25 patients diagnosed with KCN, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), refraction, tomography and biometry examinations were performed; i.e., keratometry (K1, K2, Kmean), anterior chamber depth (ACD), central corneal thickness (CCT) and target intraocular lens (IOL) diopters (D) with Pentacam (Oculus, Germany) tomography, IOLMaster 500 (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany) and Argos (Alcon, USA) biometry devices.

Results

Mean age was 27.31±10.85,BCVA was 0.22±0.44LogMAR.According to Pentacam; 9(18.8%),22(45.8%),13(27.1%) and 4(8.3%) of total eyes were stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 KCN, respectively.CCT was significantly thinner in Pentacam(441.39±54.23µm) than Argos(471.50±93.72µm)(p=0.01);ACD was measured to be significantly shallower with Pentacam(3.40±0.44mm) than with Argos(3.86±0.71mm)(p<0.01).There were no significant differences between the target IOL D delivered by Argos and IOLMaster(p>0.5).SA60AT and MA60AC IOL D provided by Argos and IOLMaster showed high comparability at all mean values(Bland-Altmann analysis,p=0.23,p=0.194).The KCN stage was correlated with Pentacam K1, K2,astigmatism and Argos K1,K2.It was inversely correlated with Pentacam CCT(p<0.05).

Conclusions

Intraocular lens D calculated by IOLMaster and Argos devices showed high compliance across all values. However, as the KCN stage increases, the difference between Pentacam and Argos and IOLMaster measurements seem to increase.
