Purpose
To study refractive result and satisfaction of patients with Luxsmart ® intraocular lens implantation in a public setting, as well as topographic factors that may influence it.
Setting
Secondary public hospital in Madrid, Spain
Methods
Consecutive recruitment of patients with cataract, of working age, with jobs that require optical precision at various distances, capable of understanding and answering questionnaires and without ophthalmological pathology or previous interventions in a public center in Madrid, Spain. Biometry was performed using Lenstar 900, topography using Pentacam ® and visual acuity (VA) measurements without (SC) and with correction (CC), as well as a visual satisfaction questionnaire (catquest9s), presence of halos and use of glasses at three months.
Results
21 eyes of 15 patients were included. Median age was 60.50 years (interquartile range (IR) 5.50). Preoperative AVcc for far distance was 0.4 (RI 0.33). The postoperative AVcc in all distances was 1 (RI 0), with a correction (spherical equivalent) for distance of -0.13D (RI 0.75), intermediate +1D (RI 0.25) and near +1.5D (RI 1). The AVsc were good at far and intermediate distances (0.9 RI 0.2 and 0.8 RI 0.10) and acceptable in near vision (0.6 RI 0.20). All patients were satisfied. 24% and 76% of patients needed glasses for at least some intermediate or near vision task (respectively). 56.5% referred hales, with minimum impact. No statistically significant relationships were found between the topographic values (p>0.05).
Conclusions
Luxsmart ® lens is a safe and effective alternative in selected patients and provides sufficient visual satisfaction.
