Purpose

To report early real-world results of the TECNIS purely refractive Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) PCIOL.

Setting

Data from up to 10 investigational sites in Europe.

Methods

This is a multicentre, observational, single-arm study in patients bilaterally implanted with TECNIS purely refractive EDOF IOL. Visual and refractive performance are reported from one site in Spain. 28 patients (34 eyes) were implanted in one or both eyes with the TECNIS EDOF IOL. Uncorrected and distance-corrected visual acuity results are reported for distance at 4m, intermediate at 66 cm and near at 40 cm in decimal scale. Postoperative spherical equivalent refraction, photic phenomena, patient satisfaction, and spectacle independence are also reported.

Results

28 subjects (34 eyes) were implanted and had 1 to 3-month data available for one or both eyes at the time of abstract submission. Mean post-op spherical equivalent manifest refraction was -0.09 ± 0.48 D. Mean post-op monocular UDVA and DCVA were 0.88 ± 0.18 and 0.96 ± 0.12, respectively. Mean UIVA and UNVA was 0.84 ± 0.18 and 0.75 ± 0.19, respectively. Binocular UDVA, UIVA and UNVA were 1.1 ± 0.23, 0.93 ± 0.13 and 0.97 ± 0.07, respectively. There were no reports of visual symptoms and patients demonstrated high levels of satisfaction with good spectacle independence.

Conclusions

The early real-world results for the TECNIS purely refractive EDOF IOL shows excellent visual outcomes for all distances and reports of high patient satisfaction.
