Purpose
Comparison of postoperative outcomes for EDOF IOLs: Elon (Medicontur), LuxSmart (Bausch + Lomb), PureSee (Johnson and Johnson Vision) and Vivity (Alcon). Parameters studied included CDVA, DCIVA, DCNVA, and contrast sensitivity. Secondarily, we also evaluated the dependence of CDVA and DCIVA on corneal high order aberrations. We also compared the measured data with the Envista aspherical lens and the Synergy trifocal lens.
Setting
Lexum, Brno, Česká republika
Methods
In a group of 94 eyes, biometric measurements were performed on the IOL Master 700, topography on the Pentacam, objective refraction and keratometry on the Nidek ARK-1. Subjective refraction was done on the Topcon CV 5000 phoropter and the Topcon cc-100xp LCD Optotype. Contrast sensitivity measurements were taken using a modified Pelli-Robson technique on the Topcon cc-100xp LCD Optotype. At 3 months after uncomplicated cataract surgery with EDOF IOL implantation, subjective refraction, deviation of the final refraction from the calculated intention, and contrast sensitivity were determined.
Results
The monocular distance-corrected visual acuity was 1.2 ±0.14 for Elon, 0.93 ±0.16 for Luxsmart, 1.02 ±0.14 for PureSee and 1.18 ±0.15 for Vivity. The monocular distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity was 0.74 ±0.23 for Elon, 0.66 ±0.15 for Luxsmart, 0.68 ±0.16 for PureSee and 0.79 ±0.12 for Vivity. The monocular distance-corrected near visual acuity was 0.41 ±0.16 for Elon, 0.31 ±0.13 for Luxsmart, 0.40 ±0.14 for PureSee and 0.43 ±0.09 for Vivity. The contrast sensitivity was 0.79 ±0.07 for Elon, 0.66 ±0.08 for Luxsmart, 0.71 ±0.08 for PureSee and 0.90 ±0.12 for Vivity. Data for the PureSee IOL group are preliminary; at the time of writing the abstract, this IOL had not been fully evaluated
Conclusions
In our experience, all types of EDoF IOLs provided excellent distance and intermediate vision. Visual acuity at near was sufficient.
