Purpose
This study aims to assess the initial outcomes and safety profile of MIGS procedures performed in special circumstances after a failed glaucoma filtration surgery.
Setting
The study was conducted in a Tertiary eye care center in western part of India.
Methods
A retrospective analysis of 10 consecutive cases with failed glaucoma filtration surgery who underwent MIGS procedures was conducted over a 6-month follow-up period. The MIGS procedures included in this study iStent and iStent Inject implantation, Excisional Goniotomy with Kahook’s Dual Blade Glide and Bent Ab-Interno Needle Goniectomy (BANG). Patient demographics, change in Intra ocular Pressure (IOP) and number of glaucoma medications and any complications were evaluated.
Results
After a 6-month follow-up, significant reductions in intraocular pressure and number of anti-glaucoma medications (AGMs) were observed in all cases (p < 0.05). The mean IOP reduction was 23.6%. The number of AGMs was reduced (30.8%) postoperatively. No Complications observed during the follow-up period. Failure was noticed in 1 eye (10%).
Conclusions
The initial results of this study suggest that MIGS procedures performed after a failed glaucoma filtration surgery can effectively reduce intraocular pressure and decrease the reliance on glaucoma medications. Further research with larger patient cohorts and longer follow-up periods is warranted to validate these findings.
