Purpose

To explore the long-term effectiveness of Healaflow in SST during primary open angle glaucoma
surgery.

Setting

Watany Eye Hospitals, Cairo, Egypt

Methods

Since 2021; 16 eyes with primary open angle glaucoma, 8 females and 8 males were done SSTwith MMC and Healaflow. 2 phakic eyes and 14 combined phaco-trabeculectomy. Follow up was done 2 nd day post-operative, 1 st month, 3 rd month, 6 th month, 1 st year, 2 nd year and 3 rd year by slit-lamp photos and IOP. OCT was done before surgery and on the 2 nd and third years.UBM was done on the Second and third years.

Results

Slit-lamp photos revealed quiet eyes with well formed anterior chamber with well formed functioning bleb all over the second and third years. IOP was between 11 and 15 mmHg decreasing by 10 -15 degrees compared to the preoperative IOP. UMB on the second and third years revealed well-functioning blebs with patent PI for all cases.

Conclusions

Healaflow is of great value in maintaining functional filtration blebs and in controlling and stabilizing intraocular pressure. It is safe and reliable in clinical application, and it helps to reduce the unstable intraocular pressure after glaucoma surgery caused by scar adhesions in the filtration channel.
