Purpose
To evaluate the use of omalizumab as a therapeutic alternative in vernal keratoconjunctivitis non responsive to conventional treatment.
Setting
Vernal keratoconjunctivitis is a bilateral, recurrent, inflammatory and difficult-to-control eye disease.
Methods
We present a 14-year-old patient who, after two years of maximum topical treatment and subcutaneous immunotherapy, persisted with highly symptomatic flare-ups that affected his quality of life and with high IgE levels. It was decided to administer Omalizumab (300mg 2 times a month).
Results
After four months of treatment, patient's quality of life and symptoms have improved.
Conclusions
Omalizumab as a therapeutic alternative in severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis is a good option in patients with increased IgE levels who have not responded to conventional treatment.
