Purpose
To compare the results of DSAEK with femtolaser-assisted DLEK in patients with corneal EED
Setting
18 patients (18 eyes), mean age 60.5±1.5 years, 7 men (39%) and 11 women (61%).
Methods
Group I 10 patients (10 eyes) who underwent DSAEK, Group II 8 patients (8 eyes) who underwent femtolaser-assisted DLEK.
Results
femtosecond laser accompaniment allows minimizing corneal endothelial trauma and achieving almost complete congruence of cut out stromal discs of the inner layers of the cornea in the donor and recipient. This leads to the formation of a thinner donor-recipient complex, a 2-fold decrease in postoperative hypermetropia, which contributes to obtaining high functional results
Conclusions
Femtolaser-assisted DLEK in patients with corneal EED makes it possible to cut out an ultrathin stromal disc with specified parameters, which is an undeniable advantage over other methods. The maximum correspondence of cut out stromal discs of the inner layers of the cornea in the donor and recipient leads to the greatest functional and structural safety of the corneal structures with minimal loss of corneal endothelial cells.
