Purpose
The purpose of this study is to assess indications, refractive outcomes, endothelium cell density (ECD), graft survival, and complications related to the first 46 cases of Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) and deep membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) achieved in Algeria.
Setting
Department of ophthalmology, military university hospital of Constantine, Algeria.
Department of ophthalmology, military university hospital of Oran, Algeria.
Methods
In this retrospective study, 46 patients were enrolled between December 2017 and December 2023. A pre-and post-operative complete ophthalmologic examination was done. The data were collected on demographic characteristics, pathology, best corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), post-operative astigmatism, central thickness of the graft measured using OCT. the endothelium cells density was checked at 01 year, 03 years, and 04 years.
Results
Conclusions
endothelial keratoplasty is becoming the gold standard for the surgical treatment of corneal endothelium dysfunction without important stromal scars. This procedure allows short period of recovery, rapid visual rehabilitation with low astigmatism and less complications comparing to PK.
