Purpose
To evaluate outcomes on visual acuity at different distances, range of vision, patient satisfaction, spectacle independence, visual quality and refractive outcomes in cataract patients implanted with the trifocal Clareon PanOptix®/ Toric IOL.
Setting
Department of Ophthalmology, Goethe-University , Frankfurt, Germany
Methods
Analysis of a prospective, single-site, clinical trial in the Department of Ophthalmology, Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany including patients after bilateral implantation of the Clareon PanOptix/ Toric IOL. After 3-, 6- and 12-months follow-up, binocular uncorrected and corrected visual acuities at distance (UCDVA, BCDVA), intermediate (UCIVA, DCIVA) and near (UCNVA, DCNVA) was measured. Spectacle independence, defocus curve ranging from -5.0 D to +2.0 D in 0.5D steps, patient satisfaction, visual disturbances, contrast sensitivity and the presence of glistenings were evaluated.
Results
We enrolled 27 patients with an average age of 63.5 ± 7.22 years in the clinical trial. Twelve months postoperative (13 patients until now) monocular UDVA, UIVA in 60cm and 80cm was >0.1logMAR and UNVA in 40cm was >0.2logMAR. Binocular UDVA, UIVA in 60cm and 80cm and UNVA in 40cm was >0.1logMAR. Defocus curve shows two peaks at 0D and 2D. All patients are spectacle independent in all distances. 69% of the included patients reported halos at night. Contrast sensitivity was 1.72 ± 0.48logCS under photopic conditions, 0.98 ± 0.26logCS under mesopic conditions and 0.88 ± 0.14logCS under mesopic with glare conditions. There were no glistenings in all patients 12 months postoperatively.
