Purpose
Evaluation and comparison of visual outcomes and ocular opticalpresentation of the trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) Panoptix and Panoptix Toric and EDOF intraocular lens Vivity and Vivity Toric (Alcon, USA).
Setting
Eye Microsurgery Сenter VOKA, Minsk, Belarus
Methods
111 cases with hyperopia and presbyopia were under observation. Refractive lensectomy (RLE) with implantation of 48 trifocal Panoptix and Panoptic – toric IOL and 63 EDOF Vivity and Vivity Toric IOL was performed. One hundred eleven eyes were divided into 2 groups: 48 cases with the trifocal Panoptix IOL at the age of 54.94 ± 5.4 years and 63 cases with the EDOF Vivity IOL at the age of 57.09 ± 6.68 years. Monocular uncorrected distant visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) at 60 cm, and uncorrected near visual acuity (functional near, UNVA) at 45 cm were evaluated.
Results
astigmatism: 0.9±0.44; axial length 22.99 ± 0.70 mm
The visual outcomes of trifocal PanOptix IOL and EDOF Vivity IOL groups, respectively, were as follows: UDVA: 0,91±0,07 and 0.95 ± 0.06, NIVA at 60 cm: 0,68±0,06 and 0.53 ± 0.06* (p≤0.001), UNVA: 0,75± 0,09 and 0.55 ±0.11* (p ≤0.001). In the group of EDOF Vivity IOL the manifestations of halo effects were significantly less.
Conclusions
Both models of the IOLs provided high visual functions for middle and near distances. The visual ability at middle and near distances in the group of trifocal Panoptix IOL were higher compared to EDOF Vivity IOL group. Halo effect was less disturbing in EDOF group.
