Purpose

To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes following standard phacoemulsification with bilateral implantation of Precizon Presbyopic NVA, an intraocular lens with Continuous Transitional Focus developed by Ophtec, Groningen, NED.

Setting

Prospective consecutive case series in one single clinical site

Methods

This prospective consecutive case series involved 68 eyes of 35 patients (mean age was 60,07 ± 9,79 years. 57,15 % (20) of the enrolled patient were female, and 42,85 % (15) were male. The primary outcome parameters included postoperative monocular corrected/uncorrected visual acuity at far distance and uncorrected visual acuity at intermediate (60 cm) and near distances (decimal scale). Manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) was assessed as a secondary outcome parameter. Follow-up assessments were conducted one month post-surgery. Efficacy and safety of the  was also analyzed.

Results

The power of the implanted intraocular lenses(IOLs) were within the range of  +6,25 and +27 D, with a mean IOL power of 19,88±4,76 D. 45 spherical lenses and 23 toric IOLs were implanted. At 1 month post-surgery, MRSE significantly improved from -0,75 D±3,99 D to 0.00 D±0,25 D. Monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA) showed a mean value of 0,94±0,12 decimal. Monocular corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA) showed enhancement with mean values  improving from 0,88±0,14 to 0,95±0,1 decimal. Monocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity(UIVA) at 60 cm and uncorrected near visual acuity(UNVA) demonstrated satisfactory outcomes, with mean values of 0,86±0,15 and 0,67±0,15 decimal, respectively. Efficacy index 1,06-Safety index 1,08

Conclusions

The Precizon Presbyopic NVA IOL (Ophtec BV) with Continuous Transitional Focus demonstrates good performance yielding favorable refractive and visual outcomes at all distances (far, intermediate and near), being a safe and effective procedure
