Purpose

To investigate the visual outcomes after PanOptix Toric T3 implantation in Chinese cataract patients with low corneal astigmatism.

Setting

A prospective, observational and dual-center study.

Methods

Age-related cataract patients with low regular corneal astigmatism preoperatively, who were recommended to be implanted with PanOptix Toric T3 IOLs by the Alcon Online Toric Calculator were enrolled. Verion eye image-guided system were used to assist IOL positioning during surgery. The monocular BCDVA, monocular uncorrected and distance-corrected visual acuity at 5m, 60cm, and 40cm, IOL rotation, and manifest refraction at 1m and 3m postoperatively were recorded. The IOL rotation were calculated as the absolute value of the difference between the IOL axis at postoperative follow-up and final surgical IOL axis at the end of surgery.

Results

A total of 30 eyes from 30 patients were enrolled. Patients achieved mean BCDVA -0.008±0.101 at 1 month and -0.041±0.100 at 3 months after the implantation of PanOptix Toric T3 IOLs. The mean monocular uncorrected acuity was 0.012±0.117logMAR, 0.047±0.123logMAR, and 0.071±0.136logMAR for 5m, 60cm, and 40cm, respectively. IOL rotation degree was 2.05±1.72 at 1 month and 2.53±1.84 at 3 month postoperatively. The mean refractive astigmatism after surgery is 0.373±0.410 D 1-month postoperatively and 0.337±0.308 D 3-month postoperatively. PanOptix Toric T3 IOLs implantation effectively reduced residual astigmatism after surgery.

Conclusions

Implantation of PanOptix Toric T3 IOLs achieved good visual outcomes in Chinese cataract patients with low corneal astigmatism. PanOptix Toric T3 IOLs could effectively correct low corneal astigmatism with good rotational stability.
