Multifocal Lens Implantation After Rk (Radial Keratotomy) Using Haigis Formula And Zeiss® Toric Calculator.

Purpose
To demonstrate the visual acuity and patient´s satisfaction after cataract surgery with Atlisa, Atlisa toric and Atlisa trifocal toric IOL using Haigis formula and Zeiss® toric IOL calculator in patients with Radial Keratotomy (RK).
Setting
CEMOA – CENTRO DE MICROCIRURGIA OCULAR ATIBAIA.
ATIBAIA. SÃO PAULO BRAZIL.
Methods
Retrospective study assessing patient´s data of 77 eyes with cataract and Radial Keratotomy that were submitted to cataract surgery and implantation of multifocal lens Atlisa family. Haigis formula and Zeiss® toric calculator with IOLMaster 500 were used to find the power of the lens as well as the indicated axis.
The surgeries were done with only one experient surgeon and no complications occurred. Best Visual corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, number of the radial and transversal incisions, dynamic refraction, patient´s satisfaction and glasses dependence were analyzed. Patients with other lens implanted, and other pathologies as retinal detachament, drusen, glaucoma and corneal disease were excluded to avoid interference.
Results
The spherical component of refraction varied from +3.05 D to the to -3.02 diopters. Cylinder mean value was -1.48 diopters. The mean number of radial incisions was 7.39 radial incision and 2.60 transversal incisions. Mean age was 60.18 years. Mean best corrected visual acuity was 20/34 and J1.
Atlisa toric was implanted in 66.7%of the eyes, Atlisa in 30%of the eyes and Atlisa tri toric in 2.47%. Patients were followed for 10 years and the complete final evaluation of the 77 eyes was done after 6 months.
A percentage of 88% of all eyes achieved 20/30 or better and J1 best uncorrected visual acuity. 35,06% of the eyes achieved residual refraction between -0.75D and +0.75D, and 37.66% residual astigmatism under -0.75D.
Conclusions
In our ten year’s experience the results with Atlisa family lens and Haigis formula plus Zeiss toric calculator with IOLMASTER 500 in patient with cataract and RK is very safe and can lead to glasses independence.
Recently we are implanting other lens with Barret True K with IOLmaster 700 and Argos.
