Refractive And Functional Outcomes Of At Elana 841P® Diffractive Trifocal Iol In Patients Undergoing Cataract And/Or Refractive Lens Exchange Surgery.

To describe the visual, refractive, and defocus curve function outcomes of a new diffractive trifocal IOL AT ELANA 841P® (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany), in patients undergoing cataract and/or refractive lens exchange surgery.

This was a prospective, observational, descriptive pilot study in patients undergoing cataract and/or refractive lens exchange surgery with implantation of AT ELANA 841P®. The IOLMaster700® was used to perform the biometry. All surgeries were done by one experienced surgeon and the IOL power was calculated using Barrett II Universal Formula with an A-constant (manufacturer) of 119.5. Monocular visual acuity at distance, intermediate, near, and refractive outcomes were assessed at 1-month post-op. Also, the monocular defocus curve at 1 month was obtained. 

44 AT ELANA 841P® were implanted bilaterally in 22 patients. All surgeries proceeded without any adverse events. The mean age of patients was 60.87±5.69 years, the mean AXL was 23.32±1.09 mm and the mean IOL implanted power was 23.25±2.77 D. At 1-month post-op the monocular CDVA, CIVA and CNVA was -0.14±0.09, 0.10±0.10, and 0.11±0.10 LogMAR respectively. 93.75% of eyes achieved 20/25 or better of post-op UDVA. The post-op spherical equivalent at 1-month was 0.06±0.37 D with a rage between -0.25 D and +1.00 D. 94% of eyes were within ±0.5 D of spherical equivalent at 1 month. Monocular defocus curve shows a peak of maximum VA at 0D (-0.13±0.10 LogMAR), at -1.50D, and -2.50 D (0.06±0.08 LogMAR and 0.02±0.13 LogMAR, respectively).  

The AT ELANA 841P® IOL provides good visual outcomes at distance, intermediate and near vision, with an adequate defocus curve at 1-month.
