Purpose

To asses the clinical outcomes of the Rayone Trifocal

Setting

Optegra Eye Hospital, Hampshire, UK

Methods

This was a retrospective analysis of the outcomes of consecutive patients undergoing cataract/clear lens exchange surgery using the Rayner Rayone Trifocal lens. Outcomes measured were pre and post op UDVA and CDVA, pre and post op UNVA and CNVA, pre and post op refractions. PROMS data was collected using the RAYPro questionnaire.

Results

140 eyes from 70 patients were included in the analysis. 90% of patients had an UDVA of 20/20 or better after surgery. 66% of patients had an UNVA of N5 or better and 95% had a UNVA of N8 or better. 91% of patients were within +/- 0.50D of the intended Spherical Equivalent. 90% of patients reported being independent of glasses after surgery and 5% reported problems with Night Vision Disturbances at three months post op.

Conclusions

The Rayone Trifocal offers excellent levels of spectacle independence after cataract/clear lens exhange surgery. Patient satisfaction is very high. Like with most multifocal IOLs, a small proportion of patients complain of night vision disturbances post surgery. These results demonstrate the importance of pre-op counselling and patient selection with regards to night vision.
