Purpose
To compare the clinical outcomes after bilateral mix and match cataract surgery using 3 different types of Intraocularlens (IOL) implantation and dual-technology diffractive IOL.
Setting
MS Eye Clinic, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea
Retrospective, non-randomized comparative clinical studyRetrospective, non-randomized comparative clinical study.
Methods
Patients who underwent bilateral phacoemulsification with 3 different types of IOL (enhanced monofocal IOL; Eyhance®, diffractive Extended Depth of Focus (EDoF) IOL; Symfony®, Non-diffractive EDoF IOL; Vivity®) implantation in dominant eyes and dual-technology diffractive IOL (Synergy®) in non-dominant eyes were compared in this study. All Patients who followed at least for 6 months and underwent surgeries between Jan 2020 and Mar 2023 were included. Visual, refractive outcomes and occurrence of dysphotopsia were compared.
Results
15 patients were included in each of the 3 groups. All eyes of all patients had improved corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected intermediate visual acuity (CIVA) and corrected near visual acuity (CNVA) at 1, 3 and 6 months. Although bilateral mean CDVA, CIVA and CNVA were improved in all of 3 groups, bitlaeral mean CIVA was highest in the Vivity with Synergy group, followed by Symfony with Synergy group, followed by eyhance with Synergy group. Occurrence of dysphotopsia was not different in 3 groups.
Conclusions
Bilateral mix and match cataract surgery using three different types IOL with dual technology diffractive IOL yields good visual outcomes for all distance. Mix and match implantation using EDoF (Symfony and Vivity) with dual-technology diffractive IOL (Synergy) provided higher intermediate visual acuity than enhanced monofocal IOL (Eyhance) with dual-technology diffractive IOL (Synergy).
