Purpose
To evaluate the visual performance and visual quality after bilateral AcrySof IQ Vivity non-diffractive extended vision intraocular lens implantation.
Setting
A prospective, single-arm study was conducted within a medical group comprising multiple centers in Taiwan.
Methods
Patients underwent bilateral Vivity IOL implantation after phacoemulsification cataract surgery, targeting emmetropia or mini-monovision (non-dominant eye targeted to -0.50 D). At 3 months postoperative, the uncorrected and distance-corrected visual acuity at far, intermediate (66cm), near (40cm) and intermediate reading speed were recorded. Subjective visual quality, spectacle independence and patient satisfaction were measured using standardized tests and questionnaires.
Results
The study included 38 patients with a mean age of 62.0±7.7 years, predominantly female (65.8%), and 20 patients were micro-monovision(52.6%). Visual acuity outcomes revealed uncorrected binocular far, intermediate, and near acuity of 0.05±0.08, 0.12±0.14, and 0.22±0.20 logMAR, respectively. Thirty-two of 38 subjects (84.2%) had a binocular uncorrected intermediate VA of 0.2 logMAR or better.
Subjective quality of vision questionnaire outcomes indicated minimal complaints about glares (82.6% "none" or "just a little") and halos (78.3%).
High rates of spectacle independence at far and intermediate (both 95.7%). 30.4% of the subjects require the use of reading spectacles for near visual tasks.
Conclusions
Bilateral Vivity or Vivity toric IOL implantation demonstrated good far and intermediate vision with acceptable near visual acuity. Photopic issues, such as halos and glares, were minimal.
