Purpose

To discuss potential benefits of a new approach to presbyopia correction by combining two different profile IOL designs with extended depth of focus.

Setting

The University Eye Hospital Bochum, OftalVist Alicante, Hospital La Arruzafa, University of Valencia

Methods

The Asqelio™ PairedFocus™ is a novel IOL design using refractive posterior surface Phase-RingTM technology that optimizes the range of focus from intermediate to near while maintaining distance vision, and therefore should complement the performance of Asqelio™ EDOF when combined. The calculated visual performance from optical bench data was carried out for the combination of Asqelio™ EDOF and Asqelio™ PairedFocus™ IOLs.

Results

The calculated binocular visual performance after BEVPx™ from optical bench data obtained from both IOLs estimates a full range of vision above 0.1 LogMAR from distance to near using a refractive extended depth of focus approach.

Conclusions

The combination of refractive designs in BEVPx™ for the correction of presbyopia yields promising results for obtaining refractive correction at all distances without the drawbacks of diffractive designs.
