Purpose
The purpose of this quality management is to assess the visual outcome and satisfaction of patients implanted with AcrySof Vivity (Alcon) IOL.
Setting
All surgeries were / will be performed at the Breyer-Kaymak-Klabe Eye Surgery and Premium Eyes in Duesseldorf, Germany, member of the International Vision Correction Research Center (IVCRC.net) by one single surgeon (Breyer).
Methods
In all eyes (n=20), an enhanced depth of focus (EDoF) IOL (AcrySof Vivity, Alcon) was implanted. We retrospectively analyzed the blended vision effect with this non-diffractive EDoF IOL. The target refraction was emmetropia in the dominant eye and -1.5 D in the non-dominant eye. We assessed subjective refraction and binocular defocus capacity after 3 months postoperatively. To obtain information about patient satisfaction, we evaluated the QIRC Questionnaire.
Results
The new EDoF IOL allows unimpaired seeing at distance. Intermediate vision is better than with monofocal IOL. Moreover, newspaper and letterpress reading are also possible in good light conditions. The blended vision effect guaranteed binocularly reading books and newspaper print beside the vision in PC distance and for far.
Conclusions
AcrySof Vivity blended vision is a very interesting alternative to diffractive multifocal IOL, if patients do not accept photopic phenomena, but want to work at PC distance and read a book or newspaper without reading glasses. However, reading small print is rarely possible.
