Purpose
To assess the preferred IOLs choice in cataract surgery practices among Chinese ophthalmologists via an online survey
Setting
SinoUnited Health Clinic , Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai, China
Methods
An online questionnaire was sent out in January 2024 to Chinese Ophthalmologists who perform cataract surgeries. The questions were focused on the type of intraocular lens (IOL) preferred. All data obtained were collected and analyzed.
Results
A total of 270 participants responded to the online questionnaire. For monofocal IOLs, 38.89% of participants preferred J&J Tecnis, while 38.15% of participants preferred Alcon IQ IOL. For presbyopia correcting IOLs, Tecnis Synergy (24.81%), Alcon Vivity (21.11%), Alcon Panoptix (17.41%), Tecnis Symfony (10.37%) and Zeiss AL Lisa 839 (10.00%) are the leading preferred IOL choice. More than half of the surgeons (62.96%) preferred the mix-match solution. Surgeons were inclined towards astigmatism correction by using monofocal/EDOF/trifocal toric IOLs. About one third surgeon preferred Tecnis Toric II IOL. IOL attributes which surgeons were valued sequentially included EDOF design, hydrophobic material, low dysphotopsia design, asphericity.
Conclusions
This survey provides some insight into the current IOL choice among Chinese ophthalmologists. Vision range and vision quality are the preferred reasons for IOLs choice.
