Purpose

Due to requirements in daily routine near and intermediate vision became even more important in daily activityThis change in lifestyle resulted in the need constructing IOLs which could correct presbyopia. The Tecnis Eyhance is a monofocal IOL with a little increased depth of focus due and according to manufacturer was not designed to correct near vision. However clinical observation suggests that after implantation this IOL gives some degree of spectacle independence.

The aim of our work is to present the clinical experience and patient satisfaction with Tecnics Eyehance lens implantation in patients with cataracts.

Setting

Presented study was perforemd in Warsaw Eye Hospital.

Methods

107 eyes of 64 patients were retrospectively analyzed and VA for near (30cm), mediate(70 cm) and far vision in different light condition was gathered on 6 and 12 months after the surgery.Contrast sensitivity was also assessed after the surgery. Patients answered a quality of life questionnaire. The average length of the eyeball in the study group was 26.36 mm (20.59 mm-27.15 mm) The postoperative refraction and accuracy of different calculation  formulas was analyzed. The assessment of post-surgical relation was performed together with accuracy of calculation formulas  compared III (SRK/T, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1) and IV generation (Haigis, Holladay 2, Barrett Universal II Formula, Kane).

Results

Visual acuity [LogMar] for near (30 cm) was UCVA 0,76/BCVA 0,18; for intermediate (70 cm) UCVA 0,03/BCVA -0,036; and for far UCVA 0,05/BCVA 0,02. There were significant differences between BCVA for different light condition. None of the patients reported glare nor halo effect. No decrease in contrast sensitivity was observed. The average patient satisfaction score was 4.54 in grade 6. No statistically significant differences were observed between the MAE (median value 0.3) measurements for all calculation formulas p = 0.82. In the case of PE, there were also no statistically significant differences between individual measurements p = 055. The median for individual PE measurements is around -0.1.

Conclusions

The Tecnis Eyhance IOL gives excellent good near and intermediate and distance visual acuity. The central defocus of the lens help patients to achieve spectacle independence and better quality of life. Patient don’t experience glare and halo effect. All of analyzed calculation formulas in our group was accurate in calculation the Tenis Enhance power.
