Purpose

In DIB00V (Johnson and Johnson), binocular liberated naked eye visual acuity in micromonovision with one eye in normal vision and the opposite eye aimed at -0.5D is examined.

Setting

A total of 298 eyes of 149 patients who had DIB00V inserted for cataract surgery from April 2022 to December 2023 at Saitama Red Cross Hospital were included. Surgery was performed by four surgeons. Patients with diseases other than cataract were excluded, and those who requested postoperative emmetropia were included in the study.

Methods

In group E, in which both eyes were aimed at emmetropia, and in group M, in which one eye was aimed at emmetropia and the opposite eye was aimed at -0.5 D, best corrected visual acuity (logMAR) was measured at 5 m and binocular liberated naked eye visual acuity at distances of 5 m, 1 m, 70 cm, 50 cm and 30 cm at one week after surgery. The smallest font size that could be discriminated by deciphering letters with the naked eye at the near equivalent distance was measured.

Results

There was no significant difference between monocular best corrected visual acuity and binocular released naked eye visual acuity at 5 m after surgery. For binocular released naked eyes visual acuity at 1 m, Group E: 0.069 ± 0.14 , Group M: 0.059 ± 0.14, (p=0.02, linear model); at 70 cm, Group E: 0.087 ± 0.12, Group M: 0.063 ± 0.15, (p=0.006); at 50 cm, Group E: 0.21 ± 0.16, Group M: 0.15 ± 0.15, at 30cm Group E: 0.46 ± 0.19, Group M: 0.37 ± 0.18 (p=0.005). Font size was significantly different between Group E: 7.8 ± 2.1 and Group M: 6.6 ± 1.4. (p=0.001)

Conclusions

Micromonovision using a -0.5D left-right difference in DIB00V may improve near visual function without decreasing distance visual function and may decrease the rate of eyeglass wear.
