Purpose
To evaluate the performance of a new advanced monofocal design IOL after cataract surgery with a follow-up period of up to six months. The EVOLUX is a new wavefront IOL without a diffractive pattern that offers a very high depth of focus, almost approaching that of EDoF IOLs in the lower market segment. We wanted to explore if our early results on 30 eyes were consistent with a larger sample size.
Setting
Eye Clinic Svjetlost, Zagreb
Methods
Routine cataract surgery was performed at out centre by two experienced surgeons, NG and KG. Patients were seen and evaluated on POD1, POW1, POM1, POM3 and POM6 by LŽ and KG. All data was collected using clinic validated equipment - qvisionacademy MultifocalLA software in a light controlled room for repeatability purposes. 200 eyes were included in this analysis.
Results
Our results showed that the IOL provided very good distance vision with the average CDVA of better than 0.1 logMAR in 100% of eyes (range -0.1 to 0.1), with average AddPower for reading at J1 level of 1.64D (range +1.0D to +2.0D) Range of vision in defocus curves above logmar 0.2 was from -1.5 to +0.5 in 85% of patients. Average lens power implanted was 21.5D (range 18 to 26). PCO rate at 6 months was 3%. Positive dysphotopsia were not reported by patients.
Catquest-9SF was used to evaluate patient satisfaction which was very high in all areas.
Conclusions
SIFI EVOLUX is a new advanced monofocal IOL with excellent performance, low PCO rate, and without positive dysphotopsia reports during our 6-month follow-up on a large number of eyes (n=200). It is proven to be an invaluable addition to the cataract surgery portfolio of advanced monofocal IOLs.
