Purpose

To present results on the satisfaction level and postoperative distant and near visual acuity 6 months after phacoemulsification and TECNIS Eyehance and Eyhance Toric II (Johnson & Johnson) IOL implantatio with mycro-monovision in hypermetropic patients.

Setting

A retrospective case series study was conducted. Inclusion criteria were hypermetropic patients who came to the eye clinic Knezovic for lens exchange due to refractive error from January 1st, 2021, until July 31st, 2023, with the spherical equivalent of 3.0 or more Diopters and the minimal follow-up of 6 months postoperatively. Exclusion criteria were cataracts, glaucoma, optic neuropathy, amblyopia in more than one row in Snellen Optotype, diabetic retinopathy, and wet ARMD.

Methods

Phacoemulsification with Tecnis Eyhance and Eyhance Toric II intraocular lenses (Johnson & Johnson) implantation was performed in each patient. All surgeries were done by a single surgeon applying the same technique with a 2.2 mm incision and micro-monovision on the non-dominant eye.
A two-sided T-test was used to compare and analyze monocular best-corrected preoperative and uncorrected postoperative far visual acuity. The same test was used to compare binocular best-corrected preoperative near visual acuity with postoperative uncorrected near visual acuity. Quality of Vision standardized and validated questionnaires were obtained to examine patients´satifcation.

Results

In total 30 hyperopic patients met the criteria. The average age was 56 (Median: 57). The difference between monocular best corrected preoperative and uncorrected postoperative far vision for right and left eyes was not statistically significant (P values 0.17 and 0.16, respectively). The difference between binocular mean values for best corrected preoperative (mean = 1.3) and uncorrected postoperative near vision (mean = 2.06) was significant (P values < 0.05).

Conclusions

Hyperopic patients after phacoemulsification and TECNIS Eyehance and Eyhance Toric II (Johnson & Johnson) IOL implantation report significant improvement of uncorrected visual acuity in all distances, as well as high levels of satisfaction with the quality of vision after the performed procedure.
