Purpose

To evaluate the outcomes and complications of different surgical methods for intraocular lens subluxation and dislocation

Setting

One single center in Taiwan

Methods

This was a retrospective observational case series. We collected 83 eyes of 41 patients from April 2018 to December 2023 in Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital. We used different techniques to complete intraocular lens reposition. Main outcomes included postoperative visual acuity, intraocular pressure and complications after the operations.

Results

Causes of dislocation and subluxation included traumatic history, Marfan syndrome or intraoperative findings or injury. Among patients with intraocular lens subluxation and dislocation, we compared visual acuity outcome of scleral fixation between Hoffman pocket with Gortex CV8 group and flanged technique with 6-0 prolene group. The results showed no differences of postoperative visual acuity in two groups. We also compared the outcome of surgery for intraocular pressure elevation, conjunctival inflammation and flange exposure.

Conclusions

The results of management of intraocular lens dislocation and subluxation in our hospital were relatively satisfactory. Postoperative outcome showed improvement in visual acuity without complication of conjunctival inflammation and flange exposure.
