Purpose

To evaluate the effect RA activity on the corneal densitometry, CC, CCT, and lens densitometry by Pentacam and compared these parameters with healthy control subjects

Setting

This  study was conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology, Minia University, Minia, Egypt in the period from June 2022 to June 2023. The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Minia University and adhered to the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki with approval NO:632-6/2020.The study is registered on clinicaltrials.gov (NCT05241639)

Methods

A Case - control observational study on RA patients which divided into 2 groups, each group 120 eyes of 60 patients, group 1 of RA in the remission state and group 2 of RA in the active state. Group 3 of 120 eyes of healthy controls. Pentacam was used to measure corneal densitometry, CC, CCT, and lens densitometry

Results

A higher density was found in the groups 1 and 2 in the 0-2 mm and 2-6 mm radial zones of the anterior layer and the 10-12 mm zone of both the central and posterior layers with no significant difference between groups 1 and 2

Conclusions

RA patients had higher corneal densitometry than healthy subjects with no affection of RA activity on corneal densitometry.
