Purpose
This study was conducted to present the studies that emerged as a result of bibliometric analysis in the field of cataract surgery and nursing to researchers with a holistic perspective.
Setting
Data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database on 1 March 2024. Analyses were performed using VOSviewer version 1.6.20.
Methods
The analyses included co-citation and occurrence network analysis of authors, cited authors, countries, institutions, cited journals and references, and keywords.
Results
The search yielded 240 studies. It was observed that ophthalmology (n=80), nursing (n=23), general internal medicine (n=19) and geriatrics (n=19) were the most common fields of publication. The Journal Of Cataract And Refractive Surgery (n=8) was found to have the highest number of studies on cataract surgery and nursing, and the most cited study was "A virtual training simulator for learning cataract surgery with phacoemulsification" with 56 citations in 2011.
Conclusions
Research on cataract surgery and care has increased between 2020 and 2023. It was found that research on this topic was limited to countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Turkey, and the keywords used intensively were cataract, cataract surgery, anxiety and visual impairment. Based on the results, it is believed that the study will contribute to new researchers and literature in terms of revealing general trends in the field of nursing. In addition, due to the low number of publications in nursing journals, it is recommended that researchers publish in this area.
