Purpose

Different femto lasers for lenticule based surgeries have different camera settings to show the image of the applanated area on the screen. The purpose of inventing this instrument is to be able to mark the toricity on the cornea till the centre, autoalignment of the astigmatic axis on the cornea as displayed on the laser screen.

Setting

With image guided technology, marking the horizontal and the 6 o clock limbus with the help of this marker under the microscope in lying down position, completely takes care of the cyclotorsion element for high toric numbers ensuring accurate axis alignment.

Methods

50 patients were selected with moderate myopia and myopic astigmatism. Axis marking for astigmatism was done in supine position under an operating microscope with superimposed image guided technology. Thereafter the marks were examined so that extension upto the pupillary margin was clearly visible. Lenticule extraction was performed with a cap of 120 microns and 110 microns depending on pachymetry.

Results

Use of this toric marker resulted in accurate determination of the horizontal axis in patients with high astigmatism, resulting in fewer refractive surprises post operatively.

Conclusions

This toric marker helps to determine true axis of astigmatism and accurate marking to allow perfect auto alignment of the laser axis. This ensures predictable post operative results. This marker improves the ability to detect the toric marks to the centre of the pupil allowing accurate autoalignment
