Purpose

To explore the correlation between central vault and lens morphology after ICL implantation in myopia patients over 40 years old.

Setting

Changsha Aier Eye Hospital, Changsha, China

Methods

Eighty-nine eyes from 89 patients who underwent ICL implantation surgery were enrolled in this retrospective study, including 46 eyes from patients below 40 years old, and 43 eyes from patients over 40 years old. Lens morphologic parameters (average anterior radius of curvature, lens tilt and lens thickness) were measured by CASIA 2 anterior segment optical coherence tomography. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between the relevant lens morphologic parameters and central vault in three months after ICL implantation.

Results

Significant differences were found for anterior radius of curvature, lens thickness and lens tilt in the different age groups (all P < 0.001). Anterior radius of curvature was found significantly reduction in patients over 40 years old, whereas lens thickness and lens tilt lens were increased in patients over 40 years old. Postoperative vault was found to be lower in patients over 40 years old (P < 0.05).

Conclusions

The lens morphologic parameters could have an important influence on vault in patients over 40 years old implanted ICL.
