Purpose

In this study, we aimed to assess safety and efficacy of clinical outcomes during 24 months postoperative period and evaluate the changes in vault
and intraocular pressure (IOP), central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and the correlative factors after V5 model implantation.

Setting

The EVO Implantable Collamer Lens is a single-piece posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens designed with a central port. it has been shown to be safe and effective way to correct myopia. Since 2016, V5 model became commercially available.

Methods

In this retrospective, consecutive, observational study,  totally 58 eyes of 30 patients had been investigated after implantation spheric ICL (VICM5) V5 model from January 2018 to December 2020 in NAZAR Eye Center in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Patients were followed up for at least 24 months in post operative period, during in which manifest refraction; uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP) and vault were measured. Pearson`s correlation analysis was used to identify variables correlated with changes in vault. All surgeries had been done only one qualifed eye surgeon and in any cases had not revealed intraoperative complications.

Results

All surgeries were performed safely with no complications during 24 months follow-up period. Safety and efficacy indices were 1.41 and 1.32,
respectively. No eye had decreased BCVA and UCVA was equal to or better than preoperative BCVA in 50 eyes (89.6%) with high myopia. The mean
preoperative manifest spherical equivalent (MSE) was -10.45 ± 2.6 D and, which postoperative refractive measures reduced to ± 0.5 D, respectively.
Further 89% were within ± 0.5 D, and 100% were within ± 0.75 D of the attempted refraction. Changes in vault were significantly correlated with
preoperative ACD, Axial length, IOP, CCT measures. The mean IOP was 17.5 ± 2.1 mmHg and the mean vault was 435 ± 102 mkm during potop follow-up period.

Conclusions

Visian ICL V5 model implantation is a safe, effective and alternative refractive surgery method for high myopia correction. Preoperative
biometric parameters including ACD, Axial length, IOP and CCT may influence changes in postoperative vault value.
