Purpose

To observe the effects of mydriasis or miosis on intraocular pressure (IOP) after implantation of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens with central hole design (ICL V4c).

Setting

Wuhan Bright Eye Hospital, Wuhan, China

Methods

This was a prospective study. A total of 102 patients (102 eyes) who underwent ICL V4c implantation in the refractive department of Wuhan Bright Eye Hospital from September 2021 to December 2021 were randomly divided into two groups: mydriasis group (48 eyes) and miosis group (54 eyes). After surgery, the corresponding medications were used to establish mydriasis or miosis models in these two groups. IOP was measured and recorded before surgery, as well as at 2 hours, 4 hours, 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery. Patients with abnormal IOP were treated accordingly.

Results

At 2 hours after surgery, the IOP in both groups was significantly higher than before surgery (P>0.05). At 4 hours, 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery, the IOP in both groups decreased and showed no significant difference compared to before surgery (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in IOP between the two groups at each time point (P>0.05). The proportion of patients with early postoperative IOP abnormalities was higher in the mydriasis group than in the miosis group, but the distribution proportion showed no significant difference (P>0.05).

Conclusions

Mydriasis or miosis has no significant control effect on early postoperative IOP in patients undergoing ICL V4c implantation.
