Purpose
Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision has developed the new femtosecond laser - ELITA . This clinical trial evaluated patients satisfaction with the procedure and visual outcomes for myopic refractive correction with or without astigmatism up to 12-months post-operatively.
Setting
Single arm, prospective study in 170 myopic subjects ≥18 years from 3 clinical sites were treated binocularly for vision correction using ELITA
Methods
To evaluate patient’s satisfaction, 4 questions were asked at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months post op: 1) How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the result of your LASIK procedure? 2) how satisfied or dissatisfied are you with how long it took to see improvement in your vision after LASIK procedure? 3) How happy or unhappy are you that you had LASIK surgery? 4) Would you recommend LASIK surgery to a friend or family member?. Main visual outcomes (VA) reported are uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), and manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) at different timepoints up to 12 month post-op visit.
Results
Responses from 95 patients at 3 months and 61 at 12 months post op were available for analysis. At 12 months 95% of patients were satisfied with the results of ELITA, 98% were satisfied with the speed of vision improvement, 98% were happy with the procedure and 97% would recommend LASIK. For VA analysis 122 eyes were available at 12 months post op. UCVA of 20/20 or better was achieved in 97% of eyes at 12 MO post-op. BCVA of 20/20 or better was achieved in 100% of eyes after the 3 month follow up post op. MRSE within ±0.50 D was achieved in 89% of eyes at 12 MO post op.
Conclusions
These results demonstrate patients treated with the ELITA system are having an excellent response to the procedure with very positive visual outcomes.
