Results Of Relex Smile Pro In High Astigmatism

To evaluate lenticule extraction using  Relex SMILE Pro Surgery for  astigmatism greater than 4.00 Diopters (D). Some refractive surgeon will not using the lenticule extraction for patient with astigmatism more than 2 or 3. This study was held before the surgeon using the vertex centration and without Ocu Align software.

This study was held in tertiary eye hospitals, JEC Hospital and clinics Jakarta, Indonesia in 2023. Data collected from January to August 2023.  All subject who did the lenticule extraction at that time was selected. Lenticule extraction was done by 7 senior consultant of refractive surgeon in JEC Hospital.

This retrospective observational study included 44 eyes treated with SMILE Pro for myopia with cylinders more than 4.00 D. Following the standard ophthalmic examination before surgery, all subjects were aligible to do lenticule extraction. This study will evaluate the uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) after surgery in one day, one week, and one month post surgery (in decimals). The value of Keratometry was collected as estimated astigmatism post surgery. All data will be analyzed using the SPSS 26.00

The UCVA showed significant changes after SMILE Pro in High Astigmatism (p<0.001). Mean of astigmatism was 4.29 D (max cylindrical power 5.00 D) and 41.2% subject have astigmatisme 4.50 D or more. Seven eyes have best visual acuity pre op below 1.0 (Amblyopia). The Mean of UCVA is 0.87 (decimals) in first day post op with visual acuity better than 0.8 was 79.5% and 1.0 was 36.4%. Mean UCVA 1 week after surgery is 0.92 with visual acuity better than 0.8 was 93% and 1.0 was 53.3%. Mean UCVA 1 month after surgery is 0.96 with visual acuity 1.0 was 66.7%. The Mean of Cylindrical power from autokeratometer 1 week after surgery was 0.78 D (0.25 ; 2.25).

Relex SMILE Pro in eyes with high astigmatism significantly increase UCVA after surgery and most of subject reach visual acuity better than 0.8 in one week after surgery
