Purpose
A new guiding device allows higher application control in cyclophoto laser treatment, which is an efficient glaucoma procedure. However, changing the radiation position and power density leads to unpredictable efficiency which may cause inefficient pressure reduction. Reproducible energy application to the tissue can enhance treatment success and stability.
Setting
A single-centre case series evaluating the safety and efficacy of a new guiding device for micropulse cyclophotocoagulation in glaucoma patients
Methods
We investigated a new guiding device to stabilize radiation deposition to the tissue by avoiding tilt in the fiber direction which delivers the laser energy. A constant perpendicular application fiber is maintained throughout the whole procedure by the new guiding device.
Results
We performed 25 µ-CPC treatments in 25 patients with superior application control as a result of the guided application fiber. The laser probe positioned in the device could be moved accurately along the quadrants in every procedure. There was no alteration of the conjunctiva.
Conclusions
With the new guiding device, the laser energy can be applied to the ciliary body without decentration at any time. Thus, the predictability and effectivity of micropulse cyclophoto treatment might be increased. Further studies are warranted.
