Purpose

To report the visual outcome of clear lens extraction in a case of anterior lenticonus

Setting

We report a case report of a clear lens extraction in a case of anterior lenticonus

Report of case

A 22-year-old woman presented with progressive bilateral loss of vision for past 4 years. Her past history reveals renal failure of undetermined origin and hemodialysis. Her examination reveals a high bilateral uncorrected myopia and irregular astigmatism. Her visual acuity was 2/10 in her both eyes. Normal anterior segment and bilateral anterior lenticonus with a clear underlying lens were noted. A clear lens surgery of the right eye was decided. During surgery, capsulorhexis was performed after coloration of the anterior capsule with blue trypan. Phacoemulsification and intraocular foldable lens implantation were associated with a favorable outcome. Postoperative course was unremarkable and her visual acuity, one week after surgery, was 5/10. The patient is waiting for her second eye surgery.

Conclusion/Take home message

Clear lens phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lens implantation is an effective procedure for the management of low visual acuity due to anterior lenticonus, especially in young patients.
