Purpose
Calculation accuracy of 3rd-generation formulas (SRK/T, Holladay 1, Hoffer Q) with 4th-generation formulas (Haigis, Barrett Universal II Formula, Kane) for EDOF IOL Vivity, Lucidis, and InFo. We also examined patient satisfaction and Visual Acuity 12 months after surgery.
Setting
Introducing new types of intraocular lenses and calculation formulas for cataract surgery necessitates selecting the most accurate calculation method suited to a specific type of lens. Nowadays, not only the correctness of the calculation but also the proper selection of the patient and the patient's satisfaction after the procedure are important.
Methods
A retrospective analysis of the calculation of intraocular lenses with postoperative acuity in 136 eyes (42 eyes Lucidis, 49 eyes InFo, 45 eyes Vivity). The material consisted of eyes: Vivity mean 24,8mm long, Lucidis mean 23,88mm long InFo 24,24mm long. Calculation error (Predictive Error - PE) was compared for multifocal lenses. The patient satisfaction questionnaire and visual acuity were completed after 12 months.
Results
Analysis of the statistics showed that there are no statistically significant differences in the PE between the 3rd and 4th generation formulas for those types of lenses. For IOL Lucidis and Vivity, the most accurate formula is Barrett Universal Formula ( PE -0,15 and PE -0,22 ). For InFo IOL, the most accurate formula is Haigis, Barrett Universal Formula ( PE -0,0,3). Mean Vis [LogMar] after surgery was: Lucidis LogMar scale 0,08; Vivity 0,05, InFo 0,14. For Lucidis, BCVA after surgery was below 0,21 for 90,5% of patients, Vivity below 0,21 for 97,8% of patients, Info below 0,21 for 81,6% of patients. Complete independence from glasses was achieved by 72% of patients for Vivity, 65% for Lucidis lens, and 45% for InFo.
Conclusions
Our analysis shows that the most accurate formula for EDOF IOL is the Barrett Universal II formula. In terms of clinical practice, for Lucidis and Vivity IOL, more than 90% obtained Visus after surgery lower than 0,21 LogMar only for Info IOL, it was 81,6%.
