Purpose
To evaluate the efficacy of Light-Adjustable-Lens in the management of combined intraocular lens and pterygium surgery.
Setting
Methods
All patients who underwent cataract combined with pterygium surgery and who were implanted with the Light-Adjustable-Lens (LAL) were evaluated. All cases were performed by the same experienced surgeon. After postoperative adjustments and lock-in with the light-delivery-device (LDD) visual and refractive outcomes including postoperative residual astigmatism, mean keratometry (KM) and uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) were obtained.
Results
Fourteen eyes were included in this study. The mean keratometric astigmatism before surgery was -2.49 D (+/- 2.80). At the 3-month follow-up, keratometric astigmatism was 1.00 (+/- 0.49). For the refractive results, we found a mean spherical equivalent of -0.26 (+/- 0.35), with 93.3% of eyes within 0.50. The mean visual acuity was 0.06 LogMAR (+/- 0.12). In vector analysis, the mean preoperative astigmatism had a centroid of 1.66@100 (+/- 3.29), and postoperative refractive astigmatism was 0.10@105 (+/- 0.42).
Conclusions
This is a procedure with predictable outcomes; good results were achieved in a single surgical procedure. It is a simple and reproducible procedure that can assist patients and reduce their surgical burden.
