Visual Outcomes With A New Multifocal Iol: A Real World Evaluation

To report real-world experience with a new multifocal IOL m(IOL), the Hoya Vivinex Gemetric. HOYA Vivinex™ Gemetric™ IOL is a glistening-free hydrophobic trifocal IOL with a proprietary aspheric optic, designed to provide excellent distance vision and well-balanced intermediate and near vision.

This case series includes data of 38 eyes of 22 patients implanted with a Vivinex Gemetric IOL. 7 eyes had a toric IOL and 1 eye had a Gemetric plus toric IOL. Postoperative data are available for 38 eyes at 1 month (1M). Refraction outcomes include manifest refraction reported in sphere, cylinder and manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE). Vision is reported by means of monocular and binocular corrected and uncorrected visual acuity (CDVA and UDVA) as well as uncorrected intermediate and near visual acuity (UIVA and UNVA). Patient reported outcomes concerning satisfaction and spectacle use were gathered via simple questionnaires.

After implantation of the mIOL, with a mean IOL power of 19.5D the mean manifest sphere was -0.064D±0.379 (n= 38) (1M.). 94% of these patients were within ±0.5D with target aim of plano. Monocular UDVA outcome was ≤-0.008logMAR, while UIVA (n=19) was N8.158±2.339 (65cm) and UNVA was N5.421±1.518 (35cm). Binocular results (n=16) (1M) showed an UDVA outcome of -0.071logMAR, UIVA of N7±2.070 (65cm) and UNVA of N5.062±1.652 (35cm). At 1M follow-up in the group with binocular surgery (n=16) 94% of patients had a UDVA of at least 0.09LogMAR, 88% of patients had at least N5 UCNV and 75% had at least N8 for UIVA. At 1M 22.7% noticed some form of dysphotopsia. Surgeon satisfaction was very high with the ease of implantation.

The real-world data for the HOYA Vivinex™ Gemetric™ IOL show very promising outcomes. Postoperative outcomes demonstrate the high efficacy concerning the uncorrected distance, intermediate and near vision. Spectacle independence can be achieved at all distances. These objective outcomes are supported by subjective patient reported data such as the high patient satisfaction.
