Purpose
To report on the real world safety and efficacy outcomes of the TECNIS Eyhance Monofocal IOL indicated for patients looking for functional intermediate vision.
Setting
Private Refractive Surgery (Optical Express)
Methods
Real World Outcomes of 5,393 consecutive patients who underwent lens replacement surgery in the presence or absence of a cataract, with implantation of the TECNIS Eyhance IOL are reported. The age range of patients was 40 to 99 years, with pre-op refractive range of +11.00D to -18.50D and up to -10.00D of refractive astigmatism. Post-implant clinical safety and efficacy outcomes in addition to patient reported outcomes were examined.
Results
Mean postoperative uncorrected binocular distance visual acuity was +0.02 logMAR; intermediate visual acuity was +0.12 logMAR; & near visual acuity was +0.36 logMAR. The mean gain of lines for binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity was 7, lines gained of intermediate was 6 & 5 lines of near visual acuity. 1.7% of eyes had loss of >2 lines BCVDA. Mean difference between postop UCDVA & BCVDA was <1 line. Intended vs achieved SE ±0.5D was 81.4%; ±1.0D was 96.0%. Intended vs achieved cylinder ±0.5D was 70.4%; ±1.0D was 93.8%. Adverse event rates with this premium IOL remain low. LVC enhancements following the IOL implant were completed in a single digit percentage of patient eyes. Patient reported procedure recommendation rate was 93%.
Conclusions
The safety and efficacy outcomes for this enhanced monofocal IOL suggest it may be a good selection for patients looking for functional intermediate distance vision, such as at Computer / VDU distance, whilst maintaining excellent distance quality of vision. Longer follow-up is warranted to better understand the comparative performance versus standard monofocal IOL's.
