Video Summary
Dealing with astigmatism using toric intraocular lenses (tIOL) is crucial for optimizing patients' visual quality outcome, even in early stages of surgical training. However, success relies on the surgeon's skill and experience. Image guiding systems can help trainees approach tIOL surgery with confidence. The video demonstrates a 69-year-old woman with 2 D regular astigmatism undergoing cataract surgery with my first tIOL implantation facilitated by an image guiding system. This system allows precise placement of the main incision, control over the size and centration of the continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC), and accurate tIOL implantation on the correct axis. Novice surgeons might struggle with consistent sizing and centration of the rhexis. While corneal or capsulorhexis forceps marks can help, they require special adjustments. Furthermore, preoperative marking becomes obsolete, allowing the surgeon to focus solely on the surgery without disrupting their routine.
