Video Summary
A 70-year-old male patient was referred to our hospital after a complicated cataract surgery with zonular disinsertion and lack of capsular bag. After performing a pars plana vitrectomy to clean the cortex material in the vitreous cavity, we implanted a retropupillary iris-claw artisan IOL.
In the video we show the 10/0 prolene straight needle technique in order to guide the IOL implantation.
Other techniques for artisan IOL implantation require two paracenteses in the horizontal meridian, making it mandatory to change hands in order to clamp each side of the IOL to the iris.
With the technique that we used, the IOL can be easily centered behind the pupil with just one hand (the dominant), making eat easier to clamp the haptics to the iris.
This was my second surgery of this kind.
