Purpose
To compare the accuracy of two different formulas used in toric intraocular lens power calculation in patients with stage 2 keratoconus with Cataracts and to analyze the factors affecting them.
Setting
Eye Hospital,Pristina,Kosovo.
Methods
This study included 22 eyes who underwent ZEISS AT LISA tri 839MP IOL implantation with stabilized keratoconus and cataracts, aged between 46 and 57 years, and was based on the steepest corneal power measured by biometry, stage 2: >48 D and ≤53 D. Toric intraocular lens power was calculated with the Kane keratoconus formula in 11 eyes, and with the Barrett True-K formula in 11 eyes. The refractive goal was -0.75 to -1.50 D.
Results
Visual acuity increased in all patients, and subjective astigmatism decreased from -4.50 to -3.75 D to -0.75 to -1.0 D (P < .001). The Kane formula for keratoconus resulted in an error within two eyes, -0.50 D, in seven eyes, -1.0, and in two eyes -1.50 The Barrett True-K formula resulted in an error in one eye, -0.50 D, in six eyes, -1.0, two eyes -1.25 D, and two eyes -1.50 D.
Conclusion
Barrett True-K and Kane keratoconus formulas showed similar results. after toric trifocal IOL implantation in Keratoconus patients with cataracts observed increase in visual acuity and a decrease in astigmatism.
