Purpose

To evaluate refractive, visual, and quality life outcomes after phacoemulsification and
implantation of a presbyopic transitional conic toric intraocular lens (IOL) in eyes with corneal
astigmatism from 0,75D to 3D over one year of follow-up.

Setting

Observational study enrolled consecutive case series of patients who underwent
uncomplicated cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of Precizon Presbyopic Toric IOL
(Ophtec BV).

Methods

Endpoints included monocular and binocular uncorrected and corrected
distance, intermediate, and near visual acuities at one year. Subjective dysphotopic
phenomena, and subjective spectacle dependence, reduction in refractive cylinder, Binocular
Defocus Curve and axis orientation IOL were assessed.

Results

The study enrolled 36 eyes of 18 patients. At postoperative one year, mean refractive cylinder
was 0.25 ± 0,24 D, Uncorrected Distance, Intermediate and Near Visual Acuity (UDVA, UIVA,
and UNVA) were respectively 0 ± 0.09, 0,18 ± 0,15 and 0.24 ± 0,14 LogMar. Binocular UDVA
and UNVA was respectively 0 LogMar or better in 94% and 0.1LogMar or better in 92%. The
mean monocular Best-Corrected Distance Visual Acuity (BCDVA) was -0.06 ± 0.07
logMar.Manifest refraction spherical equivalent was -0,04 ± 0,32 D. Mean lens rotation from
intended position was 0° ± 4,6. Visual acuities were 0.16 LogMar or better from +1.0 to −2.5D
defocus values. 85% of patients referred that they never or very occasionally wear glasses. 85%
of patients reported that they had never or only “occasionally” seen glares. 77% of patients
perceived no double vision. 85% of patients reported that they had never or only "occasionally"
noticed a fluctuation in their vision. Our patients were highly satisfied

Conclusion

Our study is the first to evaluate the clinical results and visual quality of the Precizon Presbyopic
toric IOL over a one-year follow-up. In our study, the Precizon Presbyopic Toric IOL corrected
ametropia and presbyopia, while maintaining excellent levels of distance and near visual
acuities at one year. Associated photic phenomena are minimal and rare. This multifocal Toric
IOL offers a high percentage of spectacle independence after bilateral implantation. Patients’
reported high degrees of satisfaction one year after implantation.
