Purpose

Purpose: Aim of the work.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the patient’s performance and quality of life related to vision after implantation of extended depth-of-focus AcrySof® Vivity® intraocular lens.

Setting

Qualification of patients, surgery and all follow-ups were carried out in the Department of Ophthalmology of University Clinical Centre in Katowice.

Methods

20 patients (40 eyes) with cataract were qualified for implantation of AcrySof® Vivity® intraocular lens. The power of implanted lenses was calculated for emmetrophy by Barret TK II Universal formula. After surgery follow-up visits were planed 14 days, 1,3 and 6 months after surgery. Detailed ophthalmic evaluation was done including uncorrected visual acuity for far, intermediate and near distances, residual refraction using maximum plus technique, defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, life quality related to vision using VF-14 questionnaire and assessment of halo and glare.

Results

UCDVA was 0.01 logMAR (-0.18-0.22), mean UCIVA at 70 cm was 0.16 logMAR (0.1-0.36), mean UCNVA for 40cm was 0.4 logMAR (0.2-0.5). Mean residual refractive error was less than -0,25D. Mean result of VF-14 questionnaire was 90/100 points. Occurrence of halo and glare was very low and none of the patient reported halos or glare disturbing driving at night.

Defocus curve showed visual acuity within 0.2 logMAR up to distance of 45-50 cm.

Conclusion

AcrySof® Vivity® intraocular lens provides good visual acuity for distant and intermediate distances. Rate of adverse visual effects is very low. This intraocular lens provide high patients satisfaction.
