Purpose

To evaluate the anterior segment parameters of patients with pseudoexfoliation and patients  without pseudoexfoliation before and after uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery with Sirius-Scheimflug and to compare them with each other.

Setting

verbal notice

Methods

In this retrospective study, 35 eyes of 35 patients without pseudoexfoliation (group 1) who underwent phacoemulsification surgery and 40 eyes of 37 patients with pseudoexfoliation (group 2) who underwent phacoemulsification surgery were included. The anterior segment values of the patients before and after the surgery at the 1st week, 1st month, 3rd month and 6th month were evaluated with the Sirius-Scheimflug device. The anterior segment parameters include central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA) and corneal volume (CV) values were examined.

Results

A statistically significant difference was detected between the Psx group and the control group in ACA and CV values before surgery and at the 1st week, 1st month, 3rd month and 6th month after surgery (p<0.05). In CCT measurements, while the difference between the preoperative and postoperative 1st week and 1st month values was statistically significant (p<0.05), no statistically significant difference was detected between the two groups in the 3rd month and 6th month values.

Conclusion

Phacoemulsification surgery causes a significant IOP decrease, an increase in ACD, ACD, CV  and widening of ACA. In patients with Psx, the change in parameters is more dramatic due to the stress of the exfoliative material on the endothelium. When patients with PSX are compared with normal individuals, there are significant preoperative and postoperative differences, especially in CCT, ACA, and CV values.
